Review: Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course

June 4, 2021

Well-known as America’s oldest muni, Van Cortlandt Park is often short and simplistic, but offers strong variety and a lot of history at a great value. I recommend this course to all visitors to New York who consider themselves golf architecture enthusiasts. … More Review: Van Cortlandt Park Golf Course

Review: Dyker Beach Golf Course

April 21, 2021

A classic design held back by poor conditioning and limited amenities, South Brooklyn’s Dyker Beach won’t break the bank but is not one of the better New York City munis.  … More Review: Dyker Beach Golf Course

Review: The Misquamicut Club

February 23, 2019

An exclusive summer retreat, The Misquamicut Club is one of the best courses most people have never heard of. With architects like Ross, Raynor, and Bendelow on its pedigree, this old-school course oozes a charm more akin to the Hamptons than Southern Rhode Island. Don’t ever pass up the chance to play here if you somehow get the opportunity! … More Review: The Misquamicut Club

Francis Byrne Golf Course - West Orange, NJ (Charles Banks, 1926)
Finally had the chance to see the newly renovated Wannamoisett CC last week and wow they changed a lot! For those who don’t know, Andrew Green renovated the course over the last 2 winters and it just recently re-opened. Changes include:
A look at the tough closing hole at Bulle Rock from a few different angles. At over 450 yards, this downhill par 4 features water down the left the entire way and a tiny green surrounded by water as well. A fitting finisher at a tough Pete Dye track.
Bulle Rock Golf Course - Havre de Grace, MD
The par 4 closer at Lake of Isles North is an excellent Cape hole with an exhilarating teeshot over water. This approach is again all aerial over another hazard.
The 17th hole at Lake of Isles North almost appears as a long par 3 at first glance, but be assured there is some fairway out there some 215 yards from the teebox. Not the most interesting hole architecturally, but stunningly gorgeous and quite unique.
