A few from Richter Park GC in Danbury, CT. This municipal course was designed by local architect Edward Ryder in 1972 and occupies a hilly, hazard filled terrain surrounded by a reservoir. Beloved by locals, this is a tough teetime for non-residents to get but is well-worth it if you can. Golfweek has it ranked #9 in CT for public courses and I think that’s pretty accurate, now having played 9 of the top 10. In the third picture, you can catch a glimpse of the ultra-exclusive Morefar Back O’Beyond in the distance across the NY border.
Review now posted for Pocono Manor, one of the better hidden gems I’ve played over the last few years. This course is located in the heart of the Poconos about an hour and a half west of NYC and hour and a half north of Philly. The club contends Donald Ross designed an original 9 holes here, which is a dubious claim at best. However, it is clear that William Flynn came here in 1924, built 9 new holes, and redesigned the course.

The 15th hole at Sand Hollow is frequently thought of as Utah’s rendition of Cypress Point’s famous 16th. At 191 yards, this is an epic hole playing over a chasm to a narrow sliver of green with little room to miss. It is one of the most unique par threes I’ve played.
