Review: Short Beach Golf Course

November 24, 2021

With good variety and interesting greens in a pretty setting, Short Beach is one of the better executive courses I’ve played and is a good place for practice or novices learning the game.  … More Review: Short Beach Golf Course

Finally had the chance to see the newly renovated Wannamoisett CC last week and wow they changed a lot! For those who don’t know, Andrew Green renovated the course over the last 2 winters and it just recently re-opened. Changes include:
A look at the tough closing hole at Bulle Rock from a few different angles. At over 450 yards, this downhill par 4 features water down the left the entire way and a tiny green surrounded by water as well. A fitting finisher at a tough Pete Dye track.
Bulle Rock Golf Course - Havre de Grace, MD
The par 4 closer at Lake of Isles North is an excellent Cape hole with an exhilarating teeshot over water. This approach is again all aerial over another hazard.
The 17th hole at Lake of Isles North almost appears as a long par 3 at first glance, but be assured there is some fairway out there some 215 yards from the teebox. Not the most interesting hole architecturally, but stunningly gorgeous and quite unique.
Opening day is coming up in the Northeast tomorrow and I couldn’t be more excited! Pictured here is a course that surprised me last year - Lake of Isles North Course in Connecticut. A 36 hole facility at Foxwoods Casino, the North Course is public and designed by Rees Jones. While I didn’t love the private South Course, I quite enjoyed the North Course with its strong conditioning, beautiful views, and numerous memorable holes like the par 3 2nd below. Like its sister, this is an extremely difficult track with lots of hazards and forced carries. While not everyone feels this way, this is the best public course in Connecticut in my book and a course I highly recommend in the area.
