Review: Whitinsville Golf Club

Whitinsville proves the point that 9 great holes is superior to trying to squeeze 18 average holes on a small property. Featuring excellent greens, strategic doglegs, and strong bunkering, Whitinsville is the best 9-hole course I’ve played and is certainly one of the best 9-holers in the world. I highly recommend this course to all who enjoy classic architecture and Donald Ross. … More Review: Whitinsville Golf Club

Review: George Wright Golf Course

It’s rare you get to play an unadulterated Ross, let alone a municipal one that costs less than $50. George Wright is a fantastic design and my choice for best public course in the immediate Boston area. Featuring a very difficult terrain and numerous blind shots, this is a course all Ross enthusiasts should see and could be one of the best courses in Massachusetts with some TLC. … More Review: George Wright Golf Course

Review: The William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park

I recommend this course to those visiting the Boston area. … More Review: The William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park

Review: Wannamoisett Country Club

Perhaps the finest sub-par 70 course in the world, the charming Wannamoisett is undoubtedly among America’s finest parkland designs and a true architectural masterpiece on only 97 acres. Annual host of the prestigious Northeast Amateur, Wannamoisett prides itself on impeccable conditioning and features some of the best and most difficult greens in the country. This is an ideal members’ course and is absolutely worth a play if given the opportunity. … More Review: Wannamoisett Country Club

Review: Winnapaug Country Club

Winnapaug is a conflicting course for me. There’s a lot to like – a good Ross design, reasonable price, and location on the beautiful RI seashore. However, slow pace of play, mediocre conditioning, and lack of upkeep have never put Winnapaug at the top of my list. For visitors to Watch Hill/Westerly, Winnapaug is a solid option, but there are definitely better ones (Shennecossett, Lake of Isles, Meadow Brook) if you’re willing to drive a bit. … More Review: Winnapaug Country Club
