Review: Overpeck Golf Course
A municipal course in North Jersey lined by the highway and creeks, Overpeck is overall rather forgettable and not worth a play unless you have no other options. … More Review: Overpeck Golf Course

Sleepy Hollow members are fortunate to have this sporty 9-holer on property that features some original MacRaynor holes and is short and playable for the masses. Although not nearly as memorable or good as its world-class sister, I highly recommend an emergency nine here to get the full Sleepy experience. … More Review: Sleepy Hollow Country Club (Lower)
Although not one of New Jersey’s elite clubs, the historic Green Brook was always in extremely strong condition and featured some fun and memorable holes. The back nine’s hilly terrain and repetitive design held the course back, but it was still well-worth a play if given the opportunity. Sadly, the course closed in 2024 amidst financial difficulties. … More Review: Green Brook Country Club
Architecturally, Pelham Bay is one of the most interesting and sophisticated of the NYC municipal options with its interesting greens and strategic bunkering. It is also more playable and fun than its neighbor Split Rock. However, Pelham falls into similar pitfalls as many NYC courses with very poor pace of play and suboptimal conditions. If you are interested in architecture and can look past a lengthy round, Pelham Bay is one of the better public options near the City. … More Review: Pelham Bay Golf Course
Reinvigorated by Stephen Kay’s 2021 renovation, Hendricks Field is an excellent municipal course located just outside New York City featuring a walkable, playable course with numerous template holes. It is on my short list of affordable publics I’d recommend in the greater New York City area. … More Review: Hendricks Field Golf Course
Newly rejuvenated by a landmark Gil Hanse renovation, Sleepy Hollow is once again one of the premier courses in America and is one of my absolute favorites. Golfers will love playing these fun template holes over a memorable and gorgeous terrain and an invite here is one to be savored. … More Review: Sleepy Hollow Country Club (Upper)
A tough teetime for non-residents, Danbury’s Richter Park is one of the country’s better municipal courses and likely the best public course in Western Connecticut. The course is far from perfect but is worth a play due to its hilly terrain and strong variety over a tree-lined, hazard-filled property. … More Review: Richter Park Golf Course
Quirky, fun, and very affordable, Pocono Manor is a historic hidden gem that features classic architecture and is well-worth the drive from New York and Philadelphia. I highly recommend this course and can’t wait to play again! … More Review: Pocono Manor Golf Course
Royce Brook East is a solid course with good conditions, fair value, and a decent collection of holes. However, a very boring property fails to leave a strong lasting impression and for this reason it is not among the Garden State’s elite public offerings. … More Review: Royce Brook Golf Club (East)
With solid conditions, a beautiful beachfront setting, and strong variety and challenge, Palm Beach Par 3 is an elite executive course that is well-worth a play for all levels of golfer. … More Review: Palm Beach Par 3 Golf Course
